Rex tumbled to the other side, rolling all the way over. Already a little tired by his run, he was panting a little as he scrambled back up to his feet. Balanced regained, he reached out and tapped her back with his paw, being careful not to hit her too hard at all. This was fun! And the other little dog seemed to be having fun too as she wagged her tail and swatted at him.

Maddie barked playfully, falling over before getting back up to run around him once. She moved closer, smelling of him now. She wanted to learn this dog's smell so that when she smelt him, she could go play with him when ever he came back. She was just so lonely that she wanted to find some kind of friend...
After she had made her circle around him, she plopped down and barked cheerfully, her tail wagging back and forth. Maddie watched him carefully, her eyes intent on him.

In the beginning, Harper had been slightly anxious about leaving Rex to his own, though the moment the shifter bounded away he brushed aside any trepidation. As long as Rex stayed within the park, he would be fine by himself. He deserved some time to stretch his legs at any rate. Harper's apartment didn't exactly provide adequate room for a Saint Bernard to roam freely.
It wasn't until Harper found himself alone that he realized he hadn't brought anything to amuse himself with. He hadn't really thought about grabbing a book or newspaper or something when he had taken Rex out, since he hadn't exactly planned at stopping at the park. Heaving a mental shrug, Harper wandered off down the path and preoccupied himself with the scenery.
He had been meandering the trails for a while--perhaps about 15 minutes or so by his internal clock--when the sound of playful yips and whines tugged at his attention. A little farther down the path he found two dogs pouncing about the grass. He smiled at the sight, particularly at the fact that Rex had found a proper playmate. He wasn't exactly the best candidate for roughhousing with a Saint Bernard.
"Hey buddy," he called as he neared, being careful not to approach too quickly for fear of scaring off the other dog.

Rex's head snapped up at the sound of the familiar voice. Rex bounded over to his gaurdian, head held high and tail waving back and forth proudly. With a little coaxing, Rex thought, Harper might be persuaded to join the fun too. At the very least he could meet Rex's new friend.
With a playful growl, Rex dropped into another bow near Harper's feet, still wagging his tail. A moment after his chest touched the ground he was up again, circling back to Maddie to bring Harper's attention to the other dog. Eager for them to meet, he started to her Maddie towards the man, just as he'd nudged the smallest Harrington back home.

Maddie watched carefully, her tail wagging every now and again as she stared up at the man who was apparently this other dog's owner. Her soft wimpers of protest could be heard coming out of her chest as she tried not to move from her spot. The other dog kept pushing her toward the man. He must trust this man if he was pushing her toward him.
So Maddie quit wimpering and moved slowly up the man before them. She plopped down infront of him, her little tail laid out behind her. Her mouth hung open, tongue out slightly as she tried to cool down after her tumble with the bigger dog. She could try and get along with this man if her new playmate liked him...

He grinned at Rex's antics and was crouching down to the shifter's current level when he leapt back and returned to the other dog. He was almost herding her towards Harper as he bounced around her, urging her forwards, though Harper could see her hesistation. He himself wasn't quite sure how the approach this other dog either, for he was uncertain if she was a shifter like Rex or an actual dog.
As a canine shifter himself, he was often irked when humans approached him in his animal shape. Their typical baby talk and gestures nothing short of annoyed him, and he avoided doing the same around unknown dogs for fear that they were a shifter as well.
But if this dog was a shifter she seemed perfectly at ease with behaving just like a normal dog, which dispelled any reservations he had. Extending a hand, he held it out for the other dog to scent as he reached out to ruffle Rex's ears with the other.

Maddie stood up and gently rubbed her dry nose against his palm, taking small even sniffs as she made her way around. After being satsified with his scent, she sat down before him again. Her eyes still seemed weary but she seemed to sense the good in him and her tail wagged slightly in acceptance.
This man seemed nice enough and maybe...If she played her cards right...He might bring her some food. She couldn't help but hear her stomach rumble with the hunger she felt. She'd been living off scraps for months, and a good meal would do her good.
But Maddie was NOT about to beg for it. Not now. Not ever. So she sat there, her tail wagging as she looked up at a hopeful new friend.

Rex accepted the scratch behind his ears, closing his eyes in contentment. Harper wasnt half bad at that. Not as good as some of his family had been, but not to bad either. Scratching ears, he'd found, was like giving backrubs. Some people were just good at it, and other's needed a little practice. Rex tilted his head to one side until Harper's fingers found the right spot on his skull. He'd just gotten to the perfect angle when Maddie's stomach let out an unmissable grumble
Come to think of it, Rex was ready for a bite to eat too and for that he prefered to be human. Humans got all the fun food. Lacking a way to tell Harper exactly what he had in mind, Rex ducked his head out from under his friends and trotted a few steps down the path, then looked over his shoulder at Harper and Maddie.
